21days n°8 - Work out

Mr. Faun and I had a new year resolution: to get rid of Christmas pudding by summe holidays.
I have to say that we kept up quite well untill a month ago, we started to see results, which started to be semi permanent. We can honestly count a total of more than twentyone days.
We even managed to go running in the park a couple of times, and we were getting better.
This month we stopped, it's my fault, we need to establish a newroutine.
Because even though there was sweat, struggle and sore muscles, sometimes for days... and this is not "just saying", I've experienced it. That amazing thing that is after-sport endorphines! Moreover I WANTED to work out, me! I wanted to! Thinking about crunches and situps as first remedy after a bad day instead of the classic pillow, chocolate and whining!
A-ma-zing U_U

How did we do? I used to say that I was working out online: we (Mr. Faun and I) chatted on emesene (oh yeah, hurray for ubuntu's softwares) and gave ourselves timing, exercises, start, stop and painful comments.

I think that this is the trick: exercise with somebody, to motivate yourselves... or force eachother!
This creates a strange feeling of responsability, of duty to respect decisions made...

PS
Working out with your significant other might have nice collateral effects... in spite weariness ;)

PPS
Just for my work out companion: please know that we're going to exercise again, online or IRL or in the park, or with you crunching and with me trying to keep up with Jillina and Rachel.

E soprattutto VOLEVO fare esercizio... io!
Voler fare esercizio!

Rachel.

Musa's box

Sometimes I realize that not everyone knows what this weekly list I write is: it's a wonderful way to cheer you up, to train yourselves to think positive and to realize how lucky you really are.
Think about this past week and make a list, it can go from your favourite cereals for breakfast to falling in love, from being still alive to receiving the best news in your life (and these two may be the same thing sometimes... ok, it's late, and when it's late I talk funny).

So here we are, you can try this if you want, leave your list in the comments, or at least a link ;)

° I like it's thursday, because it means tomorrow's friday (and I go out)
° Mr. Faun's wonderful thursday lists
° Starting to have some routine

° Pizza with friends
° New ideas for the blog

° Japanese restaurant
° Tribal dance workshop *_*
° Beer fest in a square, with mini-groupies literally rolling on the ground and monitors that burst

° Rachel's and Jillina's DVDs, I'm inspired *_*
° Mythological creatures, their minds most of all

Scatola Musa

The Devil Wears Stripes

I saved the best for last: stripes.
Someone may say I'm too much a Tim Burton's fan... but let me tell you something: I found my TNBC book, I was nine, and before Burton there was another book that left a mark on my childhood: The Striped Elf (by Maria Puncel).
But also, before books, I think I had imprinting: while in hospital, as a new born, all the jumpsuit my mum knitted me were striped (and being a very round baby, with a yellow and black striped bathing suit, that gave me for years the nickname "Maya the Bee", didn't help either!).
So, me and stripes... we have a long love story.

But apparently stripes have a long story on their own: I want this book.
Mr Author collected a series of meanings linked to striped fabric, from its appearance to present day.
From "devil's cloth" to fashion issue.
Not being able to distinguish between background and foreground was too much to take for medieval people, it was strictly forbid to wear two coloured garments (chequered patterns weren't that good neither, but stripes were worse), there were fights among monks about suits and bicolour clothes.
For years stripes were a symbol of negativity, emargination: prisoners, prostitutes, mental asylum convicteds, sailors, court jollies had striped clothes...
But slowly stripes got mercy, maybe the phenomenon of mere exposition came in.
So striped fabric was used to mean hygene, lingerie, bathing suits (ok, still not "official" garments, still quite hidden, but then again...).
Untill present day, where it is widely spread and accepted.

But let's think about it, seriously. Think about "Friend's" opening theme. Can you picture the moment where they're all sitted on the couch, in front of the fountain? They're all wearing black and white, but what's one of the first things you notice? Phoebe's striped stockings, even before her long blond locks. And Phoebe is not only my favourite one, but also the weirdo one!
For years striped stockings were halloween stuff, for witches. Then they appeared in some daily outfit of some alternative and a little outsider subcultures, and if you think about it even now, in the best case possible, a striped outfit screams "Paris", or once again "sailor"...

Yes, stripes have been cleared of all charges, but this doesn't mean they can go unnoticed!

PS
Yes, yes, they're "in" now... I'm talking to you girl, who had dressed in stripes for ages and now you're almost sick of seeing them everywhere. Listen to a muse. Stock up now, now you have the chance, now that we're submerged by them, now that they come so cheap, soon some other fashion issue will be "in" more than stripes, and you'll be exclusive again... and you'll have a pretty massive stock, because when mustard coloured flowers will be in... I shiver to the thought of it!

Sorry for the lack of posts, I'm trying to get used to new rythms (job, time schedules, trains, domain... oops, did I say domani? Stay tuned), but as soon as I have I'll be back posting regularly, more than a simple thursday list! I promise!

Comunicazione di servizio creaturille mitologiche: devo abituarmi a nuovi ritmi e a qualche altro cambiamento (lavoro, orari, trasporti, dominio... ops, ho detto dominio?

Steampunk

I don't know how many ended up on my blog googling steampunk, what's steampunk, steampunk books, steampunk music, steampunk style, steampunk clothes... ok, ok, I think you get the idea!!!
I want to do something different though, I don't want to write the Nth page that tells you what steampunk is or isn't, I'll give you a list of my favourite websites for that.

I want to tell you what steampunk is to me.
First and foremost I think that people tend to forget about the "punk" part a bit too often: it's music, rebellion, fight for what you believe in, against status quo.
Or there's way too much "punk" and the "steam" goes lost into "cyber".
But this is the very beauty of this style: it's a visual style that was born from sci-fi books written in the 19th century, Jules Verne is an unaware father. So, with some obvious limits (without going all nuts and becoming steampunk legit police, thanx), there's a great freedom on interpretation.
Sci-fi that takes place in the past, it's also called retro-futurism, where submarines work with steam power, where fantastic creatures belong to our world, we just didn't know that yet, where extraordinary adventures are possible because we still haven't explored everything and we still haven't all the answers.
Most of all I love the ethic/ecological message that comes forward: we just have one single mother earth, if we treat it badly, it will crush us, but if we learn the three Rs, reuse, reduce, recycle, then we can achieve something great.

Yes, there is still that feeling of "wonder" that philosophers and writers held so dear...

And let's get this straight: some clothes really rock!!!
This is why I think I'll add some brown/nude/copper/neutral tones into my wardrobe. In the meanwhile I've already made my own goggles, a necklace with a key and findings, a pendant with a mechanical spider, Mr Faun gave me another beautiful one... (click here to see the pic ;).
What would you do?

Anyway, steampunk here on Euforilla is't done, I'll have (some day, so don't hold your breath :P) a post about books and litterature (Verne, Lovecraft?) and about bands and music (Abney Park, Voltaire?).

Now I have to go, my airship is leaving soon... :P

PS
Here are the links I promised

Steampunk

Voglio dirvi cos'è steampunk per me.

Voi come fareste?

Badass Bunnies

Cross my heart I didn't do this on purpose: one day I was planning future blogposts on my diary, and these special rabbits landed on a twentythird, saturday, april... checking a second time I realized it was going to be the saturday before Easter. What a lucky coincidence!?

After telling you about the meaning and the symbols connected with bunnies, to let you know that they're not just a bunch of fur and fear like we usually believe; today I want to give you "practical" examples of rabbits that are now in common knowledge, or are known for any other reason, and are endowed with a pretty badass character.
Why? Because I still, and always, think and care for those shy ones who come here, I'm just leaving them a bit quiet without pressing posts, but this one wants to be a cheer up.
Ready?

The White Rabbit (could I start from somewhere else? And check out Alice McGee's white rabbit!)
The March Hare (I couldn't skip this neither)
Easter Bunny (he brings chocolate, I said everything)
Four Hundred Rabbits
The Moon Rabbit
The biggest rabbit on earth (its feet! its feet!!!)
The Giant Pink Bunny (and it's in Italy!)
Rabbids
Labbits (*_* I want one)
Jazz JackRabbit (a rabbit that jumps, shoots, fights enemies all in a Wonderland-ish set? I had so much fun playing!)
Roger Rabbit (shave and a haircut...)
The Bunny Suicides (not exactly positive, but so funny!)
30 second bunnies
Donnie Darko's rabbit (veeeeery scary)
Lolbunnies and more (just search bunny, bunnies, rabbit ;) )
Hop (at least in the trailer)
The signature bunny that's conquering the world
All the Bunnies from "Watership Down" (beware, spoilers... -_-)
How could I forget her? Lenore in Little Bunny Foo Foo

Lastly, James Hillman in "An Essay on Pan" tells us that Pan was abandoned in the woods, as a newborn, but his father Hermes wrapped him in hare skin and took him to the Olympus, where everyone accepts him.
Hare is sacred to Aphrodites, to Eros, to the moon and to bacchanalia. Being in hare skin means that Pan belongs to that conceptual/mythical group.
Not bad, uh?

Last but not least, my very own stuffed bunny (in a very posey pose) :D

PS
Did you know, if you want a bunny as a pet, that you can adopt bunnies, instead of buying?
I'm not so keen on buying pets, so why not save a bunny from abandonment? :)

I cento conigli
I Rabbids
I Labbits (ne voglio uno *_*)
I conigli in 30 secondi

Come ho potuto dimenticarla? Lenore in Little Bunny Foo Foo

Flower Power

Flower power... to 95% of those who know me this is no surprise at all!
I remember a yellow, long dress, with coloured butterflies printed on, and a brown shoelace tied on my head... my first attempt to dress up as an hippie, I was 11 or 12 years old... and I liked myself that way so much!

We'll skip, here too, on drugs abuse, excessive public nudity and shallow hygene, ok? These are elements that never fascinated me.

But let me explain the real charm that those individuals could have on a young mind.
Extra long, loose hair, beads, bracelets and tons of rings (I've always had a soft spot for ring-ful hands), comfy, natural or super coloured clothes.
Smiles, flowers, music, love, peace, care for nature, love towards the animals.
Oriental and exoteric philosophies, crystals, faith in the universe.
Heck, isn't this a perfect lifestyle? No? Just me? Too bad...
Let's add rebellion to what looked like a life on a pre-designed track, a life that was lived too many times: studies, work, family, farewell. NO!
And youth movements, for studies, for rights, for ideals (right or wrong at least they spoke their minds, they made themselves heard... ok, someone maybe did it to conform to that time's "fashion"... but they did achieve some results...).

Yeah, ok, hippies are way too easy to mock around, some "hardcore hippies" don't even need to wait for the Simpsons to be laughable, pages like encyclopaedia dramatica are countless...
But let's talk aesthetics.

Keeping bathtime!
This is the easiest style for my wardrobe: my hair are already super long (dyed with henna, oh, nature!), in summer I have but long skirts, I have no syntetic fabrics (I get shocks enough as is, thanx, and then syntetics smell bad), when I wear rings I don't wear less than four, kajal is a good old friend of mine...
and I try to think positive, to raise my voice when things go wrong, to respect the environment (and not because it's "hippie", but because I live in it, we all have to live in it). And I want a Volkswagen minivan *_*

But most of all... can we not thank them so incredibly much for music fests, and all those musicians that came afterwards? And all those musicians that have been inspired by them?
I give credit where it's due U_U Thank you hippies, thank you!

Filosofie orientali, esoteriche, cristalli e fiducia nell'universo.
Cavoli, sembra lo stile di vita perfetto, no? Solo a me? Peccato...
NO!

What's my favourite book?

I'm subscribed to Anobii...
Simply because the other day, writing those ten random things about me, I realized I wouldn't know how to answer a "what's your favourite book?" question.
Because of two main reasons: there are a lot of books I've loved and that left me something special, it's very hard to choose.
But most of all I don't have in mind, always there, all the books I've read and, given my crappy memory, there a big risk I don't remember all of them properly, the risk I may forget the important ones, I would leave those out and then, to the question "Have you ever read that book?", I'd slap my forehead and say "ooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhh (yes, with that many letters) Of course I did! I forgot".

Embarassing, definately embarassing. I had to fix this.
So I thought -also thanx to a huge annoyan... ehm, the kind suggestions from a friend philosopher- that having a free tool to organize books with covers, generes and authors isn't that bad... when I'll be done maybe I'll be able to write down a short (?) classific.
In the meanwhile, if in the next few days I'll be a little absent minded, it will be because I'll be adding titles and stars to read books :)

Oh, and I also like the fact that you can display the books like they're sitting on a real bookshelf, I know, it's a silly thing, but it's a cute silly thing *_*
If you want to, please add Euforilla.. let's see if you can answer this readily: what's your favourite book?

PS
I've edited my post on Ubuntu. I've added a 7th good reason I forgot (speaking of crappy memory), it's about viruses :)

I've been awarded with this:

Thank you so much Giada!!! *_* way too kind!

So, it works like this:
-choose ten blogs you like
-tell them about the award
-write ten random things about you

Here are the blogs, in no particular order, I wouldn't be able to choose:
- Facets of the Fabulous it's already in the name! From cocktail recipes to book reviews, from high heels to beautiful music videos
- Frock and Roll style? check. Rock and roll? check. Loads of fun? check loads!
- Yes and Yes because yes is better than no. How can she be wrong?
- Arte del Cambiamento a blog about the daily things of a little star, living her life ecofriendly, downshifting and with four beautiful cats
- Dibbly Fresh you've missed a cult movie? don't worry, she'll tell you about it in one minute, making huge flops look fun!!!
- Not That Kind of Girl she inspired my 21 days challenges, but she went bigger: she consistently committed to do those things she was "not that kind of girl" to do them! (is this in any form of english? XD)
- Monoxious these two singaporean girls are really mining my resolution to add colour to my wardrobe
- Joanne Faith from fashion to life advice... this is style!
- Il segreto è unire due punti con una linea Miriam is the author of a bunny waterpainting I hung on my wall, she painted it at Lucca Comics&Games, and on her blog she posts drawings and "homeworks" from the comic school she's attending, so pretty!
- Charade Megan writes about vintage, thrift stores, travels and most of all about ways to live your life with a positive mind set

And here are my ten random things:
1) I always count the steps of a stair if I'm walking it up (or down), so if I stop speaking to you, please don't be offended
2) sometimes I talk to objects (scene. Me"Come on! Behave!" Mr.Faun"What?" Me"Nothing, I was talking to *insert object here*").
3) I can get a shock from plastic stuff too...
4) I've been writing a dear diary since I was 6... and I still own all of them!
5) I believe that all the DIY and "more concrete/artsy" stuff I do is a way, for my mind, to balance my philosophical studies
6) my favourite ice cream flavour is stracciatella (from word reference: fiordilatte ice cream with chocolate chips)
7) I think I'm one of the very few people in the world who did NOT like the Little Prince
8) I hate when someone walks into my bedroom (maybe also without knocking) and then leaves leaving the door open...
9) other than italian (wow, really???) and english (as you can see) I speak french and spanish too :)
10) in a box of cookies I eat the broken ones first, so they won't feel lonely (they reunite in my belly :) )
